14 September 2007 - Raffles Hotel Singapore, Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong and Cathay Pacific lounge in the Hong Kong International Airport clinched the top spot of three new categories introduced at the 15th Business Traveller Asia-Pacific Awards, namely Best Boutique Hotel, Best Renovated Hotel and Best Airport Lounge.
These accolades joined 47 other highly coveted titles bestowed in the annual prize¬giving ceremony that was attended by the who’s who in the travel and tourism industry. This year’s event, a formal gala dinner at Conrad Hong Kong, was made even more special with Business Traveller Asia-Pacific marking its 25anniversary.
While hotel openings these days have become more the norm than a rarity, nevertheless, outstanding service is instantly recognised by discriminating guests, as those who voted the Four Seasons Hong Kong, Best New Business Hotel in Asia-Pacific. Another noteworthy hotel that made its debut not too long ago, Park Hyatt Saigon bagged the Best Business Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City after only two years in operation.
Perennial award sweepers, Hyatt International and Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts did the expected and brought home the Best Business Hotel Brand in the World (Grand Hyatt) and Best Business Hotel Brand in Asia-Pacific (Shangri-La) respectively. These chains also dominated the awards for Best Business Hotel in cities around the region. Again, frequent travellers showed appreciation for their tireless endeavour to redefine service excellence.
For the seventh straight year, Singapore Airlines, the first airline company to operate the revolutionary Airbus A380, occupied most of the top slots of Best Airline, Best Asia-Pacific Airline, Best First Class, Best Business Class and Best Economy Class. Cathay Pacific repeated its previous feat of running the Best Frequent Flyer Programme, plus it was the first carrier to win the newly introduced category of Best Airline Lounge (Hong Kong International Airport). Air China won its first Business Traveller Asia-Pacific award for Best China Airline.
Singapore proved unbeatable yet again for its ability to impress business travellers through relentless innovation and constantly improving service. This earned it Best Business City in the World, with a showcase of sterling products - Shangri-La Singapore as Best Business Hotel in Asia-Pacific and Best Business Hotel in Singapore and Singapore Changi Airport, which is set to inaugurate its Terminal 3 in January 2008, again as Best Airport in the World and Best Duty-Free in the World.
Joining them on stage were Singapore-based industry colleagues Ascott for Best Serviced Residence Brand in Asia-Pacific and Ascott Shanghai Pudong for Best Serviced Residence in Asia-Pacific as well as Banyan Tree Ringha for Best Resort Hotel in Asia-Pacific. This was a first for the two properties, which are both located in China.
“Our new award categories, given this year when Business Traveller Asia-Pacific celebrates a significant milestone of 25 years of publishing, are proof of the ever¬increasing significance of business travel,” said Peggy Teo, Panacea Publishing Asia group publisher and managing director, Asia. “This is a trend that only promises to go beyond expectations as the economies of China and India mature.
“But one thing that
has not changed, and will continue to endure, is our readers’ high
standards for service. This year’s winners are the embodiment of this
ideal.”
NOTE FOR EDITORS:
Business Traveller Asia-Pacific sent out 16,049 poll forms to its subscribers, who travel frequently not just within the region but around the world, between May and July of this year. The response rate was 11.57 percent, and results were compiled by market research company, Taylor Nelson Sofres Hong Kong and will appear in the October issue of the magazine.
The magazine, launched in April 1982, appeared at a time when business travellers were not given the tremendous importance they are today. Through the years, Business Traveller Asia-Pacific has proven to be an indispensable source of information for frequent travellers, provided a platform for their views and opinions and recorded the evolution of what is now a billion-dollar industry.
Business Traveller heads the portfolio of titles belonging to international publishing house Panacea Publishing, headquartered in London. Business Traveller Asia-Pacific is one of 10 titles around the world, including sister publication Business Traveller China. This year Panacea Publishing Asia also launched two new titles: MIX, Asia’s creative meetings magazine and IMTJ – International Medical Travel Journal.
