Business Traveller Asia-Pacific Awards 2009The region's travel and hospitality industry applauded the highest standards of service delivery at the 2009 Business Traveller Asia-Pacific Travel Awards.

Trophies in 52 categories, representing the efforts of airlines, hotels, serviced apartments and cities to please customers were handed out at well attended ceremonies held for the ninth year at the Conrad Hongkong. Perennial emcee, BBC anchor Rico Hizon announced the winners.

Hongkong proved its enduring appeal as a formidable financial hub, garnering Best Business City in the World and Best Business City in Northeast Asia, while close rival Singapore copped Best Business City in Southeast Asia and Bangkok won Best Leisure Destination in Asia-Pacific.

Two new players joined the winners' circle – W Hongkong for Best New Business Hotel in Asia-Pacific and Hotel LKF by Rhombus Hongkong for Best New Boutique Hotel.

The Chi Heng Foundation, a champion for better education for thousands of AIDS-impacted Chinese children, was the 27-year-old publication's beneficiary for a Silent Auction of travel products and services. This is the fourth year Panacea Publishing Asia, Business Traveller's motherhouse, is working with the group to provide a better future for the youngsters, many of whom are orphans and shunned by their communities. The proceeds of the Silent Auction recently funded four reading rooms in the provinces of Anhui and Henan in China.

Renowned cellist Trey Lee, Honorary Patron for Chi Heng, was this year's guest of honour.
