Flights between Seoul’s Gimpo Airport and Beijing Capital International Airport will commence from July onwards, following a recent agreement signed between South Korean and Chinese officials.
South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs (MLTM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with China’s Civil Aviation Authority, allowing a total of 28 weekly flights between the two countries and operated by a selection of both Chinese and Korean carriers.
The carriers include Air China, China Southern Airlines, Korean Air and Asiana Airlines. The two Korean carriers will serve the route 14 times per week, while the two Chinese carriers will operate the remaining 14.
However, to facilitate the new link, the agreement will shift existing time slots and capacities allocated for flights between Beijing and Seoul Incheon due to congestion at Beijing Capital International Airport. This may mean that the said carriers will cut the number of times they currently serve the Beijing-Seoul Incheon route.
At present, Korean Air flies to Beijing 32 times per week while Asiana Airlines flies this route 21 times per week.
