Taiwan to allow solo Mainland China visitors in 2011

14 Sep 2010

The Taiwan government is expected to allow individual tourists from mainland China to enter the country, possibly by February 2011, local media is reporting.

Taiwan will launch the scheme on a trial basis in selected mainland cities.

Since the first direct air links between the Mainland and Taiwan were established in December 2008, Chinese visitor traffic has been on a steady rise. In July, the figure reached 2.14 million, representing a spend of about US$3.44 billion.

The number of arrivals from mainland China is predicted to reach 3 million in the next 18 months.
