The Taiwan government is expected to allow individual tourists from mainland China to enter the country, possibly by February 2011, local media is reporting.
Taiwan will launch the scheme on a trial basis in selected mainland cities.
Since the first direct air links between the Mainland and Taiwan were established in December 2008, Chinese visitor traffic has been on a steady rise. In July, the figure reached 2.14 million, representing a spend of about US$3.44 billion.
The number of arrivals from mainland China is predicted to reach 3 million in the next 18 months.
