The Singapore Sun Festival, which will run from October 3 to 12, features more than 190 international artists and celebrities, some of whom are making their first appearances at the event. These include author and spiritual adviser Deepak Chopra, Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka and singer-songwriter Elvis Costello.
“In keeping with our aim to deliver premium international music and lifestyle events that are exclusive and fresh, we are proud to offer festival audiences a series of ‘firsts’ in the festival’s third year,” said Jeff Fuhrman, global chief operating officer of organiser IMG Artists.
The gala performance will be a ballet performance by the Bolshoi and Mariinsky Theatres at the Esplanade Concert Hall.
Festival-goers will also get to experience the event’s first indoor film screenings and an on-stage interview with award-winning Chinese actress-director Joan Chen.
Singapore will also play host to the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and its conductor Jaap van Zweden who will play with flutist Sir James Galway, 14-year-old American pianist Conrad Tao, Russian cellist Nina Kotova and opera singer Angela Gheorghiu with tenor Marius Manea.
In addition, experimental chef Floyd Cardoz and two-Michelin-starred French chef Thierry Marx will be serving up their specialties for those looking for a gastronomic experience.
The Singapore Sun Festival is modelled after the Tuscan Sun Festival, which has been held annually in Tuscany for the past seven years.
