WestJet tie up allows CX to offer more Canadian flight points

11 Oct 2010

After announcing a code share with Alaska Airways last week (see news), Cathay Pacific has entered a similar arrangement today with WestJet.

Both tie ups are expected to help the carrier's push into North America. With Alaska, CX passengers will have access to Seattle and Portland, and with WestJet to six Canadian cities: Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Montreal, Ottawa and Winnipeg via Vancouver and Toronto, which the airline serves.

Bookings are now open for travel from October 20, 2010.

According to Tony Tyler, chief executive of Cathay Pacific, this codeshare agreement is due to the popularity of those six cities as “leisure and business destinations for travellers from Hong Kong and mainland China.”

Cathay Pacific flies daily twice a day to Vancouver and at least four times a day to Toronto.
