Finnair to launch Chongqing route

5 Jul 2011 by BusinessTraveller

Finnair will add a fourth Chinese destination next year, with four-times weekly flights between Helsinki and Chongqing starting in May 2012.

The carrier will become the first airline to offer direct services between Europe and a city which is considered by some measures to be the largest in the world, with the municipality of Chongqing having a population of over 30 million people.

Finnair will operate the route using Airbus A340 aircraft, adding to existing flights to the Chinese cities of Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong.

The carrier says it expects to focus on business travel between the cities, although it also points to leisure attractions including the Dazu Rock Carvings and access to river cruises on the Jialing and Yangtze rivers.
