Indian chain Taj Hotels has launched its latest Premium Hotels brand in Bangalore, with the opening of Vivanta by Taj - Whitefield, Bangalore.

Taj Hotels now has a choice of six hotel brands: the flagship Taj brand, Taj Exotica (spas and resorts), Taj Safaris, Gateway Hotels (see online news October 20, 2007), budget brand Ginger, and Premium Hotels, a premium full-service offering.

Vivanta by Taj - Whitefield, Bangalore has 199 rooms and suites, and draws on the culture of Bangalore, India’s garden city and technology capital, said Jamshed Daboo, chief operating officer of Taj Premium Hotels. “Our hotel, the services we offer and the imagery that Vivanta creates, are all in perfect sync with the ‘work-hard, play-hard’ ethos of Bangalore. The high-spirited ambiance and stylish design of the hotel will appeal to the modern business traveller.”

The Vivanta experience begins at the airport, where guests are collected in a limousine equipped with massage chairs and interactive games, for the 40km drive. The hotel is situated at the entrance of the International Tech Park Bangalore, the 60-acre park with office, production and retail space for the IT sector. The low-rise building is made from stone, plaster and wood and the outside is covered in green and blue glass.

Raymond N Bickson, managing director and chief executive of The Indian Hotels Company (Taj Hotels’ parent company) said: “We are delighted to open this new hotel in the vibrant, cosmopolitan city of Bangalore. Our growth plans envisage a critical role for this key metropolis and we look forward to making a strong impression with this unique offering.”

The rooms have “delight”, “indulgence” or “allure” themes, while the suites are named “temptation”, “loft suites” and “nirvana”, and have access to the Rhythm Lounge, where guests can enjoy complimentary high-tea by the swimming pool. Interactive TVs, IP telephones, wifi internet and a home cinema system are offered as standard in all Latitude restaurantthe rooms, along with a complimentary yoga mat.

There are four restaurant options: Latitude, the all-day dining room offering world cuisine; Terracotta, serving north-west Indian cuisine and showcasing live cookery demonstrations; Tease, a rooftop bar and grill; and Caramel, serving a range of health foods. The hotel also offers conference facilities equipped with digital audio systems and wifi internet access plus a 24-hour business centre.
